The Indonesia France Film Lab x MTN Lab 2025 has selected six projects for its second edition, which runs November 27-December 1 in Yogyakarta during JAFF Market.

The six selected projects are from emerging Indonesian director-producer teams developing their first or second features (see list of selections below). The lab aims to pave the way for future French-Indonesian co-productions, as well as strengthen creative and professional exchanges between the two countries.

The initiative is supported by the French Embassy - Institut français d’Indonésie (IFI) in partnership with Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture under the Manajemen Talenta Nasional programme, along with the Association of Indonesian Film Producers (APROFI) and Asian Film Alliance Network (AFAN).

This second edition of the lab also forms part of the 27th edition of Festival Sinema Prancis and has support from France’s CNC.

The lab has two main components: Scriptwriting Lab and Industry Lab. The former is a workshop organised by French film school La Fémis and led by French script consultant Eric Collins, which will “help refine and mature the six projects for international market, while safeguarding their unique Indonesian identity”.

Industry Lab will provide participants with insights into development, financing, international distribution and the French cinematic landscape. Five experts active across the film value chain will lead the workshop, including:
Thomas Rosso: General Coordinator of Cannes Critics Week
Xénia Maingot: Producer, Eaux Vives Productions
Jérémie Palanque: Producer, Woooz Pictures
Christophe Bruncher: Producer, Ici et Là Productions
Marine Arrighi de Casanova: Producer, Apsara Films

“For JAFF Market, the presence of this lab reinforces our mission to become a true meeting point between Indonesian talent and the global film community,” said JAFF Market Head of Program Gita Fara. “It deepens our role as a catalyst – connecting filmmakers, producers, and institutions – while creating long-term creative pathways.”

France is ramping up its cooperation with the Indonesian film industry. CNC President Gaëtan Bruel visited Jakarta in July 2025 and Indonesian projects developed through the lab will be included during CNC co-production meetings, along with projects from Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Cannes Critics Week recently launched Next Step Studio Indonesia, a programme dedicated to the co-creation of short films by emerging Indonesian directors, which will begin in May 2026.
