Indonesia’s JAFF Market Selects 21 Projects & IPs, Including Boo Junfeng’s ‘Trinity’
Indonesia’s JAFF Market, which is now on its third edition, has selected 11 feature film projects for its JAFF Future Project section and 10 pieces of intellectual property for JAFF IP Connection.
The JAFF Future Project line-up includes one Australian film project, Rosie Lourde’s Wreck And Ruin, through a partnership with Adelaide Film Festival (AFF) and Malaysia’s mylab – and two Korean IPs through a partnership with Busan’s Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM).
Together, the two strands of JAFF Market offer producers and industry delegates opportunities to discover films at different stages of development alongside existing stories, characters and worlds with potential for screen adaptation.
JAFF Future Project includes new works from established filmmakers such as Singapore’s Boo Junfeng and Raihan Halim and Indonesia's Sidharta Tata, along with emerging Indonesian voices (see full selection below). Among them are women filmmakers Ninndi Raras and Dian Tamara, developing their debut features.
Commenting on AFF and mylab’s partnership with JAFF, Mat Kesting, CEO & Creative Director of Adelaide Film Festival, said: “Our partnership with JAFF Market and mylab gives Australian filmmakers an opportunity to engage with the region’s creative and production networks while their projects are still taking shape.
“We want these exchanges to build a stronger foundation for collaboration, connecting teams with partners who can contribute to development, financing and the international journey of their films.”
Lorna Tee, founder of mylab, said: “International collaboration begins with understanding a filmmaker’s vision and what each partner can bring to the project. Through our collaboration with JAFF Market and Adelaide Film Festival, we want to connect Australian filmmaking teams with producers in Indonesia and across Asia, building relationships that can shape their films and continue beyond the market.”
Two of the projects selected for JAFF IP Connection have come through a partnership with ACFM: My Upstairs Neighbors, represented by Clayhouse Inc, and Friend Request, represented by Ryoung Studio.
JAFF project and IP selections will also form part of the curated meeting opportunities offered through JAFF Market’s inaugural Producers Exchange. Participating producers will receive introductions to teams from JAFF Future Project and JAFF IP Connection, along with exhibitors and industry delegates, expanding opportunities for collaboration across the market.
“We want producers to come to JAFF Market knowing they can discover films taking shape and original IP with potential for the screen,” said JAFF Market director Linda Gozali.
“JFP and JIPCon bring filmmakers and IP representatives into conversation with partners who can contribute creatively, help structure financing and connect stories with audiences. Our ambition is to turn that discovery into lasting collaboration and strengthen Indonesia’s role as a creative and production partner.”
This year’s edition of JAFF Market is taking place November 28-30 in Yogyakarta.
