Boo Junfeng, Diep Nguyen Hoang & Vincci Cheuk Projects Selected For Tokyo Gap Financing Market
Tokyo Gap Financing Market (TGFM) has selected 24 projects for its 2026 edition including new works from Singapore’s Boo Junfeng, Vietnamese filmmaker Diep Nguyen Hoang and Hong Kong’s Vincci Cheuk.
Boo Junfeng’s multi-territory co-production Trinity and Vincci Cheuk’s Hong Kong-Japan co-production 38.83 have both been selected for the Feature Film – Fiction section of the market.
Diep Nguyen Hoang’s The Saddest Stories On Earth is one of five projects being presented through a partnership with Canada’s Frontières Market, the international genre film co-production market organised by the Fantasia International Film Festival.
Robot Playground Media’s animation project A Banquet For Hungry Ghosts, which has also been selected for Taiwan’s Golden Horse Film Project Promotion Works-in-Progress section, is also being presented through the TGFM partnership with Frontières.
Participation from Japan includes new works from Yusaku Matsumoto (Winny), Akira Yamamoto (After The Fever) and Takafumi Sakabe (Kaiju Girl). Japanese production partners are involved in 12 of the selected projects, eight of which originated in Japan.
In addition, three projects have been selected through a partnership between TGFM and Cinecittà, part of the Italian Ministry of Culture’s Directorate-General for Cinema and Audiovisual Media.
With the cooperation of Imagica Group, the first-ever open pitch event will be held on the afternoon of October 28. A total of 10 projects out of 24, including 5 from the newly-partnered Frontières Showcase, will present their pitches.
TGFM presents feature film projects in the funding stage with opportunities for one-on-one meetings with industry experts to support project development and budget fulfilment. Projects participating in TGFM must have secured at least 60% of their total budget and must include an Asian element.
Previous projects selected for TGFM include 9 Temples To Heaven, directed by Thailand’s Sompot Chidgasornpongse, which premiered in Cannes Directors Fortnight; Rafael Manuel’s Filipiñana, which premiered in Sundance; and Kamila Andinia’s Four Seasons In Java, which is premiering in Toronto’s Centrepiece section;
TGFM is being held October 28-30 during TIFFCOM at the Tokyo Port City Takeshiba Port Studio. Tokyo International Film Festival is running October 26 to November 4 at venues in Ginza.
