The Philippines’ film industry is best known internationally for crime thrillers and social issue films, which win awards on the international festival circuit, while its mainstream industry is known for romantic comedies that are distributed to the diaspora. But the country’s reputation for those genres does not do justice to the huge diversity of content that the Philippines is actually producing across fantasy, action, horror, comedy, historical drama, LGBTQ+ stories, documentary and animation. And while Tagalog-language content has not been a huge focus for the global streaming platforms, at least compared to Thai and Indonesian content, streamers including Netflix and Viu are currently working with local producers on a range of premium series.

This second edition of the Streamlined Guides gives a concise overview of current market conditions, and highlights the major players in different segments of the industry (separated into two parts). Streamlined Guides are totally funded by readers so the information in the report has been researched independently of any financial support from advertisers and/or film agencies. Contact details are not included in the report, but paid subscribers can DM me to discuss the best way to approach listed companies, with Founding Member subscribers receiving priority on their queries.
